Best African Safari Destinations


Africa's best safari destinations are (in order):

  1. Tanzania
  2. Kenya
  3. Botswana
  4. South Africa

If you are going on your first African safari, you should pick at least one of the above. If you have already been on a safari, or you want to avoid the crowds, you may want to go on safari in Namibia, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe.


Tanzania

  • Serengeti
  • Ngorongoro Crater
  • Great Migration
  • Authentic, off-the-beaten-track African safari options

Tanzania is widely recognised as the best safari destination in Africa. Tanzania is also home to Kilimanjaro, chimps, whale sharks, unique cultures and Zanzibar. It is also one of only two places you can witness the Great Migration, the other is Kenya. 


Kenya

  • Masai Mara National Reserve
  • Amboseli National Park 
  • Lake Nakuru National Park
  • Tsavo National Parks 
  • Nairobi National Park (fantastic for rhino sightings)

Kenya is best known for its wildlife safaris, where you can spot all the "Big Five" animals during your safari adventure in Africa, Masai Mara is one of the famous park to witness the Great Migration. Kenya also have cultural experiences with local tribes such as the Maasai and Samburu.


Botswana

  • Chobe National Park
  • Moremi Game Reserve 
  • Okavango Delta

Botswana is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and giraffes. The Okavango Delta is renowned for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. Botswana has one of the highest concentrations of African elephants in the world, and is home to the largest population of wild dogs. 


South Africa

  • Kruger National Park (and surrounding areas) 

South Africa is best known for offering some of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in the world, including safaris in game reserves such as Kruger National Park, where visitors can spot the "Big Five" animals - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalos. South Africa’s beaches have stunning scenery, crystal-clear waters, and a vibrant marine life.
