My recent trip with Switzerland Tourism in Nov/Dec took me on an unforgettable journey through snow-capped peaks, festive Christmas markets, and the heart of Swiss culture. Whether you're an adventure enthusiast or looking for serene moments, Switzerland has something to offer every traveller.
Switzerland is a destination where every corner feels like a postcard. The snow-dusted Alps, combined with its charming villages and vibrant culture, made my trip truly unforgettable. I particularly loved exploring Jungfraujoch, known as the "Top of Europe." Standing amidst the breathtaking mountain peaks and taking in the crisp alpine air was an experience I'll never forget.
The festive season added another layer of magic. Switzerland's Christmas markets, decked out with twinkling lights and bustling with holiday cheer, were a delight to explore. Sampling local treats like raclette and mulled wine while browsing handcrafted ornaments made for a perfect evening.
Use the Swiss Travel Pass: We took advantage of the Swiss Travel Pass for all of our transport. It provided unlimited access to the country’s efficient and scenic public transport, including trains, buses, boats, and even some mountain cable cars. This pass made it incredibly easy to move between destinations like Interlaken, Zurich, and the Jungfrau region without worrying about tickets or additional costs. There are no ticket gates to go through, just hop on a train and show your pass to the conductor if they ask! The pass includes travel on the famous panoramic trains (such as the Glacier Express and Bernina Express) and also gives you free entry to over 500 museums, plus discounts of up to 50% on most mountain railways and gondolas, and free public transport in over 90 cities and towns.
Visit During the Festive Season: If you’re planning a winter trip, Switzerland’s Christmas markets are a must. Cities like Basel, Zurich, and Montreux host some of the most vibrant and festive markets. Be sure to bring a reusable shopping bag for all the unique gifts and local crafts you'll want to take home...and make sure you go with a good appetite, there are so many foods to try, and lots of mulled wine (Gluhwein)!
Pack for Adventure: Layers are essential for alpine weather, as temperatures can vary throughout the day. Don’t forget a warm hat, gloves, and waterproof boots for exploring snowy trails or market strolls. Don't forget sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the sun reflecting off the snow.
Discover Beyond the Slopes: While Switzerland is world-renowned for its ski resorts, there’s much more to explore. Take a scenic train ride through the Bernese Oberland, try sledding in the mountains, or relax with a steaming cup of hot chocolate in a cozy chalet. The views alone are worth the trip!
