Only about 30 minutes from Male Airport by speedboat, the island makes your blood pressure drop the instant you set foot on it! From 1 Bedroom overwater bungalows on both the sunrise and sunset sides of the island to large overwater residences perfect for multi-generational families, Gili will make you feel right at home. We even slept under the stars one night, as each villa has an upstairs balcony with a double bed that can be made up each night if you wish - just let your Mr Friday know! The Spa at Gili Lankanfushi is probably our favourite (and they were all fabulous), but you can't beat having a massage, whilst you watch the fish under you swimming by - magic and definitely adding an extra layer to our 'relax' mode!
Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani, both fabulous, both a seaplane ride from Male, and barefoot luxury, living life in the slow lane definitely happens here. Soneva Fushi is the 'little sister' to Soneva Jani - if you are after more of a 'jungle' feel and 'smaller' island, then Fushi definitely offers this, along with some fabulous dining options, including Flying Sauces (where you zip-line to dinner), Fresh from the Garden, and Out of the Blue. And let's not forget the Chocolate and Ice cream rooms - open 24 hours a day for guests to enjoy a little something sweet.
We snorkelled with turtles at Turtle Point, only a short boat ride from Soneva Fushi, the marine life in the area was fantastic with so many varieties of fish. If we had been a few months later, snorkelling with Manta Rays would have been on the cards, but we were just a little too early in the season this time around.
Soneva Jani - wow - many of us have seen the photos of the water slides into the ocean, well, Soneva Jani is it! And yes, we were lucky to have a villa of our own to enjoy, waterslide and all! With endless dining options, water activities galore, Soneva Soul, outdoor cinema and 5 kms from one end of the property to the other (yes, we were surprised at how spread out Soneva Jani is), you will not get bored! The villas have everything you could want, they don't just stop at your own waterslide and overwater lap-pool, you will find a retractable roof above you in the master bedroom to watch the stars at night, an outdoor bathroom with a sliding timber window, to enjoy the view as you relax in a hot bath, to your own dining room with glass floor to watch the underwater world pass by as you enjoy some in-villa dining.
