I was travelling solo on this trip, so I started planning right away and had the most amazing trip.
First up was Tokyo
Fun Fact - Tokyo is so large it is actually divided up into 26 individual cities! I stayed in the Shinjuku area which was a great base and very easy to get around. So while there I zen'd in the Shinjuku Gyoen Gardens. I was recovering from a broken ankle so couldn't do everything on my list but definitely did Mario Kart - this was the best way to see the city.
We go-karted through the streets of Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya with the traffic, which was amazing. While there, I also visited Asakusa and bought my first Japanese Knife (Damascus Steel!) and saw the Senso-Ji Temple. A short walk across the river I went to the Asahi Sky Room and had a refreshing beer on the 22nd floor overlooking Japan. Great view to sit and relax. After that I visited Skytree - now that view was a step up, but very busy and crowded! Many more things I could have done - but that's for next time!
Then off to Kyoto
What a charming city. I stayed at the Gate Hotel which was perfectly located. Here I did so many cool things. I went to Samurai School where we learned the art and got to have a turn with a real sword! Close by was the Nishiki Markets, so I checked that out. I was right next to Pontocho Alley, which had such a vibe, and across the river was the Gion District.
The Last part was off to Osaka which is a foodie heaven. I stayed in the Dotonbori area which if you love your food is the best place to be located. Here I chilled and ate for a day and a half before getting my flight home!
Reach out if you need a solo adventure through Tokyo and Kyoto!
