There are only between six and seven hundred left, and in only one location worldwide in the wild, these magnificent creatures are a rare sight indeed. Next, we make our way to the coastal island of Diu, off the southern coast of Gujarat. With a documented history dating back to 300 BC, Diu has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, including the mighty Maurya and Gupta dynasties. Explore the remnants of these bygone eras as you wander through the narrow streets of Diu’s old town. The 16th-century Diu Fort, built by the Portuguese, stands as a testament to the city’s colonial past.
