India's Hidden Gems and Wild Treasures

The vast and diverse country of India offers an abundance of wonders to behold, from its bustling cities to its tranquil landscapes.

While many tourists flock to cities like Delhi and Jaipur, there are hidden gems scattered across the country that are often overlooked. For those who seek to delve deeper into this enchanting land's natural, cultural and historical tapestry, a journey to these lesser-known destinations – a hidden and wild India - will provide a truly unforgettable experience.

Majestic Asiatic Lions in Gir Forest National Park

Our first stop takes us to the Gir Forest National Park in the state of Gujarat, where we go in search of the majestic Asiatic lions. There are only between six and seven hundred left, and in only one location worldwide in the wild, these magnificent creatures are a rare sight indeed. Experience a safari through the sanctuary and immerse yourself in the beauty of this unique ecosystem. Hopefully, You will see these regal animals lounging under the shade of ancient trees or gracefully prowling through the tall grasses. Their presence is a testament to India’s dedication to preserving its diverse wildlife.

The French Riviera of the East

From there, our journey brings us to the charming colonial French city of Pondicherry, located on the eastern coast of India. This area gained its significance as "The French Riviera of the East" after the advent of French colonisation in India. Stroll through the streets lined with colourful French-style buildings adorned with bougainvillea and palm trees. Explore the old town, marked by its distinct French architecture and tranquil atmosphere. The Auroville ashram, founded in the 1960s as an experimental community, is a must-visit for those seeking spiritual enlightenment and peace. With its unique blend of French and Indian cultures, Pondicherry offers a delightful fusion of cuisines and an opportunity to experience a laid-back lifestyle by the sea.

Historical Diu

Next, we make our way to the coastal island of Diu, off the southern coast of Gujarat. With a documented history dating back to 300 BC, Diu has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, including the mighty Maurya and Gupta dynasties. Explore the remnants of these bygone eras as you wander through the narrow streets of Diu’s old town. The 16th-century Diu Fort, built by the Portuguese, stands as a testament to the city’s colonial past. Observe the fusion of Portuguese and Indian architecture, evident in the intricately carved wooden doors and the unique blend of Portuguese and Gujarati cuisines.

Great Living Chola Temples

As we continue on our voyage of discovery, we find ourselves in the heart of Tamil Nadu, home to the awe-inspiring Living Chola Temples. Built between the 10th and 12th centuries, these UNESCO World Heritage sites showcase the architectural prowess of the Chola dynasty. Marvel at the intricate carvings, towering gopurams (gateway towers) and the spiritual ambience of these ancient sites, offering a profound connection to India’s rich history.
