Unforgettable Experiences in Anchorage, Alaska

Unforgettable Experiences in Anchorage, Alaska

I was fortunate to travel to Alaska recently.

It is such a beautiful destination and while most people know it for being a cruise destination, shadowing the coastline to see the glaciers, it is so much more. Most visitors to Alaska never experience what else it has to offer, so I want to share it with you!

How to get there

I travelled to Alaska on Premium Economy with American Airlines. This is a great option for flights to the US as the seating is very comfortable for the long haul travel time and you get a generous baggage allowance of 2 bags of 23kgs. You might need this to pack all your winter gear! The in-flight food was great and you can even log into your booking and pre-select your meals.

Where to stay

I began my time in Alaska staying at The Copper Whale Inn, one of the most popular hotels in Anchorage. This boutique property has some of the best views in town! It’s also conveniently in the heart of Anchorage and near many of the top tourist attractions. The Copper Whale Inn offers comfortable accommodation options that will make your stay enjoyable and memorable.

What to do

Anchorage is known for its snowy winters and if you like to try new things or have an adventurous nature, then you need to embrace all the opportunities and snow activities it offers!

Visiting in February meant I was able to see the beautiful snow-capped mountains and frozen lakes. The whole trip felt like I was in a snow-filled wonderland!

From Anchorage, I enjoyed experiencing snowshoeing, ice fishing, and fat bike riding the snowy trails.

I then travelled on the Alaskan Railroad from Anchorage to Talkeetna (celebrating its 100th year this year!) where I loved spending time dog sledding and snowmobiling.

Learning about the craft beers made using locally sourced ingredients on a local Brewery Tour was also a recommended highlight.

Finishing off this action-packed trip with a relaxing day at the Alyeska Nordic Spa was the perfect end to a wonderful week. Recently opened in September 2022, it is the first Nordic Spa in the state; around an hour's drive out of town. Enjoy the hot tubs and saunas, or some of the services they offer, like massage therapy, yoga classes, as well as traditional spa treatments. Feel rejuvenated before you embark on your journey home.

Unfortunately, we didn't see the Northern Lights on this trip, but you might! Besides, that just means I have to go back.

If I can help you plan and book your trip to Alaska, please get in touch.  I can't wait for you to experience all this destination offers.
