Midweek Escape to the Southern Highlands

Midweek Escape to the Southern Highlands

Milton Park Country House Hotel & Spa offers Luxury & Adventure

Nestled in the lush landscapes of the Southern Highlands, Milton Park Country House Hotel & Spa offers an idyllic escape from the bustle of city life. This historic estate, originally built by the Hordern family in the late 19th century, retains an aura of timeless elegance. As soon as I arrived, I was captivated by the charm of the beautifully manicured gardens and the grandeur of the main house.

Milton Park Country House, Southern HighlandsA Room with a view and a stay in a Deluxe Garden View Room, provided a serene outlook over the estate’s stunning grounds. The room itself was a blend of classic and contemporary, offering luxurious comfort with modern amenities. After settling in, I took a leisurely stroll through the gardens, marvelling at the meticulously maintained flower beds and tranquil water features.  One evening, I opted for the convenience of in-room dining service for dinner. The menu featured an array of gourmet options crafted by the in-house Chef, whose skilful preparations ensured that every meal was a delight. The meal arrived promptly, served with the finesse one would expect from a fine dining restaurant. It was a perfect way to enjoy a quiet, relaxing evening in the comfort of my room.   The property offers you a chance for to relax and rejuvenate, although the spa was undergoing refurbishment during my visit, I still found plenty of opportunities to unwind. There is an indoor heated pool which offers a peaceful and refreshing environment to swim and relax. The upcoming renovations to the spa promise even more luxurious experiences for future guests.

Exploring the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas is a must.

I took the opportunity to explore the charming towns and natural beauty of the Southern Highlands. A short drive brought me to Berrima, known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and rich history. Here, I enjoyed browsing through antique shops, savouring delicious chocolates and flavoursome teas, and visiting the local museums.  In Robertson, the lush green landscapes and the famous Robertson Pie Shop are must-visit spots. The pies lived up to their reputation, making it a delightful stop for a quick snack amidst sightseeing.  Mittagong offers a mix of outdoor activities and boutique shopping.

Bowral’s Main Street is a vibrant hub with a variety of interesting spots. Here are some must-visit see places:

  • Dirty Janes: A must-visit for vintage lovers, this eclectic emporium offers a treasure trove of antiques, vintage clothing, and unique homewares. You’ll get nostalgic and feel-good vibes here…
  • The Mill Bowral: A lifestyle store offering a range of homewares, gifts, and gourmet foods.
  • The Bookshop Bowral: A delightful independent bookstore with a wide selection of books and a cozy atmosphere.
  • Gumnut Patisserie: Renowned for its exquisite pastries and cakes, perfect for a sweet treat.
  • Moss Vale Antiques: A treasure trove of vintage and antique items, ideal for unique finds.

One of the culinary highlights of my trip was a lunch at Café Rosso in Bowral, a charming Italian café that offered a delightful menu with fresh, authentic flavours. The pasta dishes are particularly memorable, making it a must-visit for anyone in the area.

The Southern Highlands is rich in heritage and natural beauty.

The Heritage Trail in Bundanoon and the various nature trails around the region provided a wonderful way to connect with the area’s history and landscapes. For wine enthusiasts, the Wine Trail is an excellent way to explore local vineyards and taste some of the region’s best offerings.  You’ll also encounter some great Gin and Wine Tastings, as The Southern Highlands is also known for its distilleries and wineries. Artemis Wines in Mittagong offers delightful tastings and picturesque views of the vineyards. Another notable mention is Tertini Wines in Berrima, offering an exceptional wine tasting experience. For gin enthusiasts, the Tractorless Vineyard and Southern Highlands Distillery is a must-visit, offering a unique blend of wine and gin-tasting experiences. The Joadja Distillery is another gem, providing tours and tastings of their handcrafted gin, made using traditional methods.
