As a child, I developed a passion for travel, watching documentaries with my Dad. Names like Lake Titicaca, The Serengeti, Iguazu Falls and Mount Kilimanjaro would sing their way through my nightly dreams.
At Eighteen, much to my father's disappointment, I threw in my Science Degree at Sydney Uni when I was offered the chance to work for Qantas. And there began a 30-year obsession with travelling and helping others to realise their travel dreams. I have worked in all areas of the travel industry – airlines, wholesalers, retailers and ski specialists, so I deeply understand all the components that make up your holiday.
Most importantly, I have probably travelled to where you are looking at going. I would consider myself an expert in Africa, Europe, Canada and Alaska, as I have travelled to these destinations many times. I have been to Africa over 20 times, from South Africa to Morocco and almost everything in between. I have experienced many luxury safaris, overland camping trips, canoe safaris, and walking safaris. I feel time spent in nature and in the wilderness is the greatest luxury and most soul-restoring of holidays.
I work differently from most of the usual shop front travel agents. I take on fewer clients and spend longer getting to know you and how you like to travel. I will extensively research your chosen holiday to ensure it has the best-located hotels, the right rooming configuration and the best price for you. Designing a holiday is very different to booking a holiday. The difference is in detail, and a lack of attention to detail on holiday can be disastrous.
Having children gave me a new area of travel obsession – successful holidays with kids. Not prepared to miss out on holidays for long, I packed up the kids and put them on planes early. I discovered there are many tips and secrets to designing a holiday so that both the kids and the adults get what they need. This is especially important in Africa as taking children to Africa requires special considerations. Will the lodge give you your own vehicle on safari, is the lodge fences, or do animals roam wild around your room? The age of the child and how comfortable parents feel about this is an important consideration. The reward for getting this right is lifelong happy family memories. To see different cultures and places through the fresh eyes of your children and grandchildren is very special.
To start planning your next trip, get in touch. Let’s meet somewhere convenient over coffee, a glass of wine, or by phone, so I can fully understand your travel needs. If you are not in Brisbane, this is no problem; I work with clients worldwide; I can offer you a consultation by phone, zoom, or facetime.
