I don’t usually write much about my personal family experiences, but this recent trip was simply too good not to share.
I’ve just returned from a quick getaway at Rydges Hunter Valley, and I have to say—it blew me away. Those who know me know I’m a bit of a points-and-status junkie (yes, it’s a little stuck up!), but my experience with EVT Properties has always been amazing. This time, though .... it was beyond amazing!
We went for a short break with my family, some friends, and to scope out the facilities for an upcoming event I’m hosting there. From the moment we arrived, everything ran like clockwork. We arrived early to make the most of the facilities and headed to lunch. Then, we got a call letting us know our room was ready—two hours before the official check-in time! Emma at reception was fantastic, making sure everything was perfect for us.
Family Fun Like No Other
Our first stop? An afternoon by the pools. But this isn’t just any resort pool setup. Rydges Hunter Valley has:
- A family pool for everyone to splash around in.
- An adults-only pool for some well-deserved relaxation.
- An incredible water splash park for the kids—they absolutely loved it!

Despite it being the middle of the school holidays, the resort felt well-organised, buzzing with energy but never overwhelming. They’ve thought of everything to ensure both parents and kids have an amazing time. Daily activities included: 
Mini Ferris Wheel. So much fun!
- Movies under the stars.
- Jumping castles and a mini Ferris wheel.
- Train rides searching for kangaroos.
- Collecting eggs from the chickens and even helping the chef make omelettes for breakfast!
- The Sweets caravan for dessert was a must!
And that’s not all—there were board games for family time, cooking classes, and so much more.
The Hunter Valley: Not Just About Wine
When I think of the Hunter Valley, I think of wine tasting, gourmet food, sweet treats, and breathtaking scenery. But this resort was so incredible that I didn’t want to leave!
The food and service in the restaurants were top-notch. And the breakfast buffet? Absolutely next level—easily one of the best I’ve ever seen.
I’ve stayed at Rydges Hunter Valley before as a couple, for business, as a romantic escape and even when I had just two kids. But this time, I truly noticed how exceptional it is for families while still catering for adults with kids areas and adults only areas.
Accommodation Options for Every Family
The accommodation options are fantastic for everyone, whether you’re a couple, a group of friends, or a family:
- Hotel rooms.
- One, two, or three-bedroom villas.
- Family-friendly Kids' Suites designed with little ones in mind.
Amazing kids' suites, perfect for families.
The Kids' Suites are incredible! You get a luxurious King bedroom and lounge area, a separate bunkroom for the kids, and even a fully-fenced play area (I am yet to stay in one of these but it is on the list). There’s a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave, so you can stock up on snacks or enjoy a room-service meal at your dining table.
For those in villas, you can self-cater, order delivery from the hotel, or dine in—it’s all so convenient. Sitting at the Lovedale Bistro there were so many orders going out to rooms, it was just like watching Uber eats in action!
Tips for Wine Lovers
Of course, I couldn’t write about the Hunter Valley without mentioning wine. I was thrilled to see two of my favourite local wineries (that we are also members of) stocked at Rydges:
- Domaine de Binet – Known for their Ballabourneen brand, who supplied the wine for our wedding. They’re just a short distance away, and Dan, Nat, and the team will make you feel so welcome. Chambourcin, La Mere & Alexander the great are my favourites
- Leogate Estate Wines – Another favourite of mine. They have an amazing on-site restaurant and stunning wines to try. I still remember visiting with friends when Charlotte was just six months old — the owners even gave her a little Leo Lion toy! The Basin Shiraz is amazing but Mum’s pick is Blanc De Blancs
Both wineries are absolute must-visits on a trip to The Hunter Valley.
Other Family-Friendly Attractions
The Hunter Valley offers more than just wine for families:
- Hunter Valley Zoo: A beautiful day out for animal lovers.
- Hunter Valley Gardens: Especially magical at Christmas time with their stunning light displays.

- For interstate guests, Newcastle Airport is just a short drive away and Sydney only 90 Minutes drive. My home town of Tamworth just a short 3 hours drive and for our Canberra clients, a flight or a road trip.
