I've just returned from escorting one of my small, private group tours through Egypt and Jordan over a period of a month.
The situation in the Middle East region is a big topic of conversation at the moment, but I can tell you that Egypt and Jordan are "business as usual".
The number of tourists at the pyramids and all through Egypt is greater than I have ever seen, both in my time living in Cairo and throughout my years of leading tours there. Likewise, in Jordan - busy, busy, busy!
The Smart Traveller website has not changed the warnings for either Egypt or Jordan - they reinstate the same warnings that have been unchanged for years. So, if you're thinking of travelling to either of these awesome countries, please keep forging ahead with your plans, as it's only going to get busier over there, and you don't want to miss out on the opportunity to experience those once-in-a-lifetime places that you've always dreamt of seeing for yourself.
The adventures happened daily on my latest tour, especially for my 12-year-old daughter. She got to ride a donkey, a mule, some camels, and some horses in the most exotic places imaginable, such as around the pyramids of Giza, in front of the Treasury in Petra, or through the mountains between Little Petra and Petra.
She snorkelled and SCUBA dived in the Red Sea at Ras el Mohammed, in what many believe to be one of the top 3 SCUBA sites in the world. She disappeared into passages and tunnels in the ancient Roman catacombs in Alexandria and floated in the Dead Sea in Jordan. She sailed in a 5-star cruise boat and on a felucca on the Nile, and she sat at the desk where Agatha Christie wrote Death on the Nile, in the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan. She held the keys to the temple doors of the majestic temples of Abu Simbel, made friends with numerous local cats, bargained with local Bedouin ladies, ate foods that were out of her comfort zone (and loved them!), and learned an understanding of how blessed we are to live in such a lucky country as Australia, where food, education, housing, and employment are bountiful.
I can help you plan the most amazing tour to these magic lands, or you can join one of my small group tour departures in 2024, but whichever way you travel, just do it! You won't be disappointed and I know my trusted ground operators in both Egypt and Jordan will look after you!
