My passion for travel began at the age of 16, with overland trips around Australia that sparked my wanderlust. Traveling to Perth, Rockhampton via central NSW, and Sydney without my family for the first time, I was inspired to explore further. By 22, in 1988, I seized the opportunity of Australia's Bicentennial to embark on a Round The World working holiday. My journey took me across the USA, Toronto, the UK, most of Western Europe, and Hong Kong, where each destination offered unique cultural insights that fueled my desire to join the travel industry.
With over 30 years of experience, I've dedicated my career to helping people realize their travel dreams. I've traveled to some of the most breathtaking locations in over 50 countries across six continents, and this extensive experience has deepened my love for travel. Today, I share my passion through my business at MTA Travel, where I curate exceptional travel experiences for my exclusive portfolio of clients.
When consulting with clients, I focus not just on budget and timing but on understanding their desires and helping them achieve their travel dreams. I believe that travel transforms how we see the world—after experiencing different cultures and meeting new people, one can't help but appreciate the beauty and diversity of our planet.
Previous Experience
I have spent over 30 years in the travel industry, including 11 years managing various stores for STA Travel. During this time, I catered to a diverse range of clients, from adventure travelers to those seeking luxury in some of the world's top hotels, as well as handling university, corporate, and group bookings. Before STA Travel, I spent 13 years managing backpacker accommodations across Australia.

I've recently booked a trip to Ireland and America for my sister, mum and I through Darren Leckie at MTA Travel, and I couldn't be happier. Darren has been so attentive, responsive and full of great suggestions. I'm so happy with the trip we are about to embark on. And there has been hiccup; my dad had become unwell, and my mum had had to cancel her part of the trip. Darren has been amazing in helping us with that, cancelling her flights and travel Insurance. Darren was amazing. He was very prompt from my first email in arranging an itinerary for flights and accomodation to Europe and London (UK). He also coupled this with advice on different accomodation, sites and even with checking out options for Christmas lunch. He was very contactable while I was overseas, even to the point that due to a last minute change in my circumstances I could extend my stay a few days which I emailed him like 3 days before Christmas and he was on to it right away. I would rely and happily use Darren for any of my overseas trips.

Darren has been my go-to travel agent since 2012. I have had three overseas trips since then, including both business and holiday experiences. Working with him is so easy. Communciation is handled through phone, zoom and email. Payment is done with secure payment links through my bank. Darren has so much experience and he can really cater to a budget. His customer service is exceptional! Apart from organising the complicated international/domestic/flight/bus and train travel, Darren recently organised for my son and me to stay at a LOT of off-the-track hostels in order to visit some obscure historical sites in Europe! During my last trip in 2023, it became obvious I was going to miss my connecting flight. I called him, told him of the situation. He sorted it all out, and stayed in contact with me for the whole 33 hours it took to travel from Europe to Bali. I was so grateful to him for that. I look forward to working with him for years to come!!

I have dealt with Darren for over 20 years, for both my business & personal travel. He listens to what you want, rather than assuming he knows! Many times he’s sorted out issues I’ve had while travelling, be they big or small. I wouldn’t use anyone else!
